Prenatal Care
I am committed to providing exceptional prenatal care. I schedule 45 minutes for your visits to allow plenty of time to answer all of your questions while thoroughly examining you and the well being of your baby. These visits are a time for us to connect with each other and discuss your plans and expectations for your birth. I encourage open communication with my clients.

Prenatal visits occur once each month through the 28th week of pregnancy, twice each month through the 36th week of pregnancy and weekly thereafter until the baby is born.

During prenatal visits, I check your blood pressure, urinalysis, palpation and analysis of fetal positioning and growth, and listen to the baby’s heartbeat.  We will discuss any pertinent emotional and/or relationship issues as they arise. Initial prenatal lab work, routine blood work and prenatal screens are included throughout these visits.

Telephone Consultations
I am available whenever you have questions, concerns or need support. You are welcome to call me at any time a problem arises.

Homebirth
I am absolutely committed to creating a safe environment for your birth experience. I always attend your birth with another experienced midwife. I will stay with you throughout your labor and birth and provide emotional support as well as assist with comfort techniques. I feel that birth works best when undisturbed and as such, I work to create a balance of safety while allowing you and your partner to experience the intimacy of labor.

After the birth, I will stay with you to provide postpartum care, making sure the mother and baby are healthy, assisting with breastfeeding, preparing nourishing food for your family and cleaning up.  I will continue to stay with you until I feel confident that the mother and baby are stable.

I recommend that you have an additional family member or friend available to stay with you after I leave to assist in supporting the mother and baby as well as caring for older siblings, as the father/partner may need rest as well.

Postpartum Care
I come to your house for postpartum follow up care three times during the first 10 days following your birth. I will do a thorough examination and assessment of the mother and baby. I do my best to come at approximately 24 to 36 hours following the birth, the 3rd day and then again between the 5th and 7th day.  By state law, I am required to do the initial newborn screen (PKU) in the first 36 hours following the birth.  I will do the second newborn screen at your 2-week office visit.  Your final postpartum visit will be between 6 to 8 weeks during which I will fully assess the postpartum recovery of the mother and the well being of the baby. I encourage you to find a pediatrician or family practice doctor before the birth and that you begin care with them at approximately 2 months following the birth unless otherwise indicated.

Childbirth Education
During the childbirth series, I provide both parents with emotional support and information on prenatal exercise, pain management techniques, breathing and support techniques, anatomy and physiology of labor and birth, how to prepare for the birth, the baby and the postpartum period, breastfeeding information, and care of the newborn.  I will also provide a sibling preparation class for your other children when applicable

Physician Referral
If the need arises, I refer my clients to physicians for further care. I will refer you to the appropriate care provider to meet your needs.

Insurance
Many insurance companies pay for the services of midwives, however each policy varies. I will call your insurance company and check with them to see what your policy is regarding midwives and if applicable, I will file an insurance claim for you.
